Belmont's Tropical Diner Closed After Fire
Fire officials believe the blaze may have been started by a space heater that was left on in the basement.
BELMONT, MA — Belmont's Tropical Diner is closed until further notice after a serious fire tore through the restaurant on Sunday night. Tropical Diner, at 628 Trapelo Road, has a multi-family home attached to the back of the building, which is how authorities were alerted to the blaze.
Someone living in the home behind the restaurant called in the fire, according to Wicked Local, they said they saw smoke coming from the roof. The fire took 45 minutes to put out and there were no injuries, but four residents were displaced.
The structure itself took the brunt of the impact, with over $100,000 of damage being done to the restaurant, the outlet reported. On Monday, Tropical Diner warned customers on Facebook that they would be closed until further notice due to the fire. The post also said the restaurant is working with authorities to figure out what happened.

Tropical Diner has been on Trapelo Road for less than a year, moving into the area in March. Before the diner the space was occupied by Phinix Grill and several diners before that including Sweet Peach Diner and Andros Diner.
Fire officials told Wicked Local the blaze was most likely started by a space heater that was left on in the basement office.
