Citizens Bank Partners with Feeding America on Virtual Food Drive

Hunger Action Month Effort Highlights Ongoing Commitment to Fighting Hunger in Massachusetts Communities

BOSTON, MA – On Hunger Action Day, Citizens Bank announced that it is partnering with Feeding America on a virtual food drive to support the organization.

The virtual food drive, which runs through Oct. 7, enables both Citizens colleagues and customers to participate by contributing funds through Feeding America’s online donation page. Each dollar donated will provide 10 meals in communities served by the bank. In addition, Citizens will match each dollar donated up to $25,000.

In addition to the virtual food drive, Citizens Bank colleagues will volunteer throughout the month at local food banks and will help raise awareness in support of Hunger Action Month to provide hunger relief, nutrition assistance, and help improve access to food for families.

“Food insecurity can be devastating, impacting the ability of our children to learn and grow and for families to thrive,” said Jerry Sargent, President in Massachusetts for Citizens Bank. “One hungry family or individual is one too many. This partnership with Feeding America – combined with our ongoing support for food banks and related programs in Massachusetts -- enables us to make a real difference for our neighbors not just during Hunger Action Month but all year long.”

Forty-one million people face hunger in the U.S. — including nearly thirteen million children and more than five million seniors. Citizens Bank recently announced a new partnership with Feeding America which will provide $1 million to help fund more than 30 programs in 21 markets throughout the communities the bank serves.

In Massachusetts, as part of the partnership with Feeding America, Citizens Bank has contributed a total of $250,000 to support The Greater Boston Food Bank and the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. The funding from Citizens Bank will help to support the distribution of nutritious food to communities that need it most, in part by two refrigerated food distribution trucks.

Citizens’ support of food distribution programs provides funding that will enable the Greater Boston Food Bank to log more than 32,000 miles with the trucks this year, delivering more than 44,000 healthy meals at a time to Massachusetts residents in need of food assistance.

Citizens Helping Citizens Fight Hunger is part of the bank’s broader Citizens Helping Citizens program, which addresses three key areas: hunger, financial literacy, and strengthening the communities it serves. It is rooted in the belief that when people and communities reach their potential, we all thrive. Get more information about Citizens Bank’s community initiatives online.
