Family Ties - One Book One Belmont

The Belmont Gallery of Art’s spring show is a collaboration with the Belmont Public Library. The juried “Family Ties” exhibit is inspired by author Anita Diamant’s “The Boston Girl,” the book selected for the Belmont Public Library’s 2016 One Book, One Belmont Town-wide read event.

Diamant’s best-selling novel tells the story of 85-year-old Addie Baum, recounting her life growing up in Boston’s neighborhoods in the early 20th century. The novel touches upon several themes, but family and family relationships are central to the story. How one interprets the theme of “family” has been left up to each individual artist.

Work has been selected from visual arts media including painting, photography, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, collage, flat fiber art, digital media and sculpture.
