Howie Carr Confronts GOP Senate Candidate About Belmont Domestic Abuse Arrest (WATCH)

BELMONT, MA – Shiva Ayyadurai is no stranger to controversy. The outspoken Republican challenger to Elizabeth Warren in 2018 claims to be the "inventor of email" (an oft-disputed declaration, though he does own the copyright to "EMAIL") and has taken shots at the senator's purported Native American heritage, recently quipping that "a real Indian can defeat a fake Indian."

But an interview with Howie Carr unraveled Thursday when the conservative talk radio host confronted Ayyadurai about 12-year-old domestic abuse charges in Belmont.

The interview began with Carr challenging Ayyadurai's claim that the famously pro-Trump radio host is a "fake Trumper," which the Senate candidate attempted to deflect by discussing his campaign message.

Undeterred, Carr pressed Ayyadurai on "any skeletons" in his past the Warren campaign might be able to dig up. Ayyadurai assured the radio host that because he is so controversial, "everything's out there." Carr asked if Ayyadurai had ever been arrested, which was met with a final attempt to steer the interview back to Warren.

Carr then posted photos of the candidate's mugshot and police reports from his 2005 arrest on charges of assault and domestic battery on his live-in girlfriend. The arrest records were also posted on Carr's website.

The interview quickly went off the rails as both men attempted to talk over one another. Ayyadurai called the interview an "ambush" once the segment was over and said in a statement Friday the charges were ultimately dismissed. He also accused Carr of cutting off his microphone at one point during the segment.

The two continued to trade barbs in an off-air exchange that Carr later posted online.
