50 Free Sunscreen Dispensers Will Be Added Across Mass.

A $25,000 grant to the Melanoma Foundation of New England will expand the non-profit's "Practice Safe Skin" program.

BOSTON – The Melanoma Foundation of New England (MFNE) will receive a $25,000 grant to add 50 free sunscreen dispensers around Massachusetts.

The gift comes courtesy of Arbella Insurance and will help bolster the non-profits "Practice Safe Skin" program.

"We love the idea of placing sunscreen dispensers in public areas," said Beverly Tangvik, president of the Arbella Insurance Foundation in a statement. "All too often, we forget to apply or bring it with us and we know that overexposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun can be very dangerous. We applaud MFNE for being so innovative and we're proud to help support the fight against skin cancer."

"It is our hope that more organizations like the Arbella Insurance Foundation recognize the importance of sun protection as a simple, yet effective, way to reduce one's risk of developing melanoma," said MFNE Executive Director Deb Girard in a statement. "Our goal is to continue to educate and these dispensers act as a reminder to use sunscreen. One day, we hope they will be as commonplace as hand sanitizer."
