BOSTON — An early morning rainstorm was not enough to dampen spirits at this year's Boston Marathon — which featured the closest finish in more than 30 years. As it has since 1897, runners took their mark in Hopkinton and ran the 26.2 miles through several communities to end in Boston. This year, some 30,000 people ran it. And more than 500,000 people lined the streets to cheer them on.

Kenya's Lawrence Cherono, beat out Ethiopa's Lelisa Desisa by seconds. And Worknesh Degefa, 28, of Ethiopia, won the women's competition with a time of 2 hours, 23 minutes, 29 seconds. Read more about who won.
