Boston Mosques Get Extra Protection Following Quebec Shooting

"There are no credible threats in (the) Boston area at this time," Boston Police said, but they are taking precautions.

BOSTON, MA — After what the Canadian Prime Minister has identified as a "terrorist attack on Muslims" at a Quebec house of worship, Boston Police are stepping up their patrols in the area of Boston mosques as a precaution.

In a short statement shared with multiple outlets Monday, Boston Police said:

“The Boston Regional Intelligence Center continues to monitor the ongoing investigation in Quebec City. While there are no credible threats in Boston area at this time, the Boston Police Department has been in contact with our local mosques and will increase visibility and patrols in the area of those locations.’’

Police in New York City are also stepping up attention to local mosques.

Gunmen fired on the Islamic Cultural Center of Quebec Sunday night, killing at least six people and wounding others, according to multiple reports. Two suspects have been arrested.

The attacks come as Canadian PM Justin Trudeau announced the country will welcome refugees "regardless of their faith" denied entry to the United States under an abrupt and widely criticized executive order from President Donald Trump. The order impacts immigrants and refugees from predominately Muslim countries.
