City Realty Group Helps Boston Asian YES During Difficult Year
Boston Asian Youth Essential Service receives critical Chromebook donation from City Realty Group during time of unprecedented need
City Realty Group, a community-focused real estate development company serving the Greater Boston area since 2004, donated several new Chromebooks to Boston Asian Youth Essential Service to support remote and classroom learning for students served by this nonprofit. Located in Chinatown, Boston Asian Youth Essential Service (Boston Asian YES) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1975 in response to the emerging needs and interests of Asian youth who did not have access to services, resources and opportunities that met their specific needs and interests. This is the latest in a series of donations by City Realty Group and its own education nonprofit, called City Kids, to support Boston Asian YES and its mission to inspire Asian youth to discover and actualize their greatest potential.
Boston Asian YES mainly helps low-income immigrant Asian youth, ages 12-21, who face language and cultural barriers, challenges in school, at home, and within the community. YES’s goal is to teach Asian youth and equip them with the skills they need to make positive choices, achieve their goals, and be contributing members of their families and communities.
“I speak for everyone here, from the kids to the staff, when I say how excited we are about the very generous chrome book donation from City Realty,” said Boston Asian YES Executive Director Jane Leung. “These new chrome books perform so efficiently and the kids have had such an easy time using them. We get a lot of donations, but it is a lot of hand me down stuff. To get brand new computers means the world to us. These kids come from low-income families with limited access to technology, so the pandemic had an even bigger impact on them. With these chrome books our kids can do virtual movie nights, their homework and many other things we take for granted. Boston Asian YES can’t thank Steve Whalen and City Kids enough!”.

City Realty Group Managing Partners Fred Starikov and Stephen Whalen created a nonprofit, City Kids, to spark intellectual curiosity among the children of Boston by providing them unique experiences and powerful educational resources. City Kids seeks to leverage new technologies to provide kids with powerful tools to follow their educational curiosity. In addition to its own programs, City Kids regularly supports community events and programs throughout the city of Boston. City Realty Group has donated more than 1500 Chromebooks to students-in-need through City Kids, helped build computer labs in several schools and youth organizations, and provided other forms of support to boost education for children in Boston.
“We are proud to support the important work and worthwhile mission of Boston Asian YES,” said City Realty Group Managing Partner and City Kids Co-Founder Stephen Whalen. “At City Realty, we share YES’ vision for inspiring and enabling youth to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.”
