Here Are The Most Hazardous Toys Of 2017

BOSTON, MA — Black Friday shoppers beware: some popular holiday stocking stuffers and other toys could cause choking, eye injuries and even strangulation, a consumer watchdog group announced Tuesday. World Against Toys Causing Harm, or WATCH, released its nominees for the worst toys of the year, naming popular gadgets like fidget spinners, a Nerf crossbow and a “Wonder Woman” plastic battle sword among the hazardous toys.

The group highlighted an increase in the number of purchases made online in recent years as stores like Toys R’ Us struggle to keep their brick and mortar locations open.

“The internet has been compared to the Wild West when it comes to outlawed toys,” they wrote in a press release. “Shoppers may expect that there are checks and balances in place to prevent the online sale of recalled toys, toys already deemed to be unsafe, but unfortunately this is not always the case.”

People who buy online are at a disadvantage, the group wrote, because they are unable to physically inspect the toys they are buying.
