The Boston City Council voted yesterday to bump the preliminary election up a week, allowing more time for mail-in voting before the turnaround for the general election.
The preliminary election will be Sept. 14 if Acting Mayor Kim Janey signs the proposal. Janey is one of the candidates who will be on the ballot in that election.

Substantively this doesn't change anything. But it's an important election and you don't want to be caught off-guard.
The general election is still set for Nov. 2.

The beauty of getting back to "normal" is how fun the ordinary will be. A three-reporter team at The Boston Globe lists a dozen things to look forward to in Boston to this spring. They're all pretty ho-hum, and that's the beauty of it.
Can I squeeze some sports in here? The NFL Draft begins tonight, and Jeff Howe of The Athletic reports the Patriots are in the unusual position of angling for a top quarterback. Tom E. Curran at NBC Sports Boston says it's almost inevitable the Patriots reunite with old pal Jimmy Garoppolo. You can watch on ABC and ESPN beginning at 8 p.m.
A Boston nanny told investigators she sent and received child pornography and talked about child sex abuse online, according to Suffolk County prosecutors. Stephanie Lak, 36, of Roxbury, was arraigned yesterday on child porn charges. MassLive has more on the disturbing allegations.
What I'm reading today: My friend Zolan Kanno-Youngs has lapped me many times over. We were at The Boston Globe together and now he's covering the White House at The New York Times while I'm telling you about him. So I'll revel in this gem from Spencer Buell at Boston Magazine — Zolan's number is an area code off from that of Roller World in Saugus. And the hotshot reporter gets more than his share of wayward calls because of it. Take that, Zo. I win. In the most minor way possible.
