Latest MA Coronavirus Report: 303 New Cases, 11 Deaths

The pandemic has now claimed more than 8,600 lives in Massachusetts, but the positive test rate continues to decline, the state says.

BOSTON — Although COVID-19 continues to claim a dozen lives each day in Massachusetts, most indicators of the disease's progress continue to trend in a positive direction, the state reported Sunday.

The Department of Public Health's daily update recorded 303 new cases of the disease and 11 deaths, bringing the total of confirmed cases since the pandemic began to 114,398 and the total number of deaths to 8,607.

But the state also reported that four of six key indicators of the disease's progress are trending positively, including declines in the positive test rate - now just 1.4 percent — and the number of COVID patients entering hospitals, while testing and tracing capacity are both growing.
