Malden Dad Grills Daughter’s First Date Via Ring Video Doorbell

Being at work didn't stop this dad from questioning his daughter's date while he picked her up for dinner and a movie back in summer 2019.

Pedro, a dad and resident of Malden, Massachusetts, wasn’t going to be at home when his daughter’s date arrived to pick her up. But thanks to his Ring Video Doorbell, that didn’t stop him from meeting the young man.

It’s no secret that some dads can be a bit overprotective when it comes to their kids’ dating lives. And Pedro, a dad from Malden, Massachusetts, was glad he was able to meet his daughter Grace’s first date via his Ring Video Doorbell.

When Jared arrived to pick Grace up back in the summer of 2019, Pedro beat her to answering the door — even though he wasn’t home. “I had to be at work, so I wasn't going to be there to talk to him,” says Pedro. “I said, 'Make sure he rings the doorbell,' but I didn't tell her why.”

By the end of this hilarious, yet awkward, conversation between Pedro, Grace and Jared, which took place on Pedro’s Ring Video Doorbell, the caring dad knew exactly where they were going to eat, what movie they were seeing and even repeatedly set a 10:30 p.m. curfew.

Although Pedro couldn’t be there in person, he was glad he still got to see Jared’s face. “[The Ring Video Doorbell] definitely made me feel safer,” recalls Pedro.

Pedro is an avid user of the Neighbors App by Ring, a free app that provides hyper-local real-time alerts from your neighbors, the Ring Team and in some areas, local public safety agencies. He is always checking his phone when he receives alerts and adds, “It's also good because you can see what's going on around your neighborhood.”

As for what he thinks about Jared? “He's a very respectful kid,” says Pedro after meeting him in person later on. “And he told me he kept looking at his watch the whole time during that first date to make sure he got her home before 10:30.”

To Pedro’s satisfaction, Grace arrived home from her date with Jared at 10:18 p.m.
