Massachusetts 'Speaks Out Against Hate' on Beacon Hill

BOSTON, MA — People again gathered outside the Massachusetts State House in the wake of Donald Trump's election, this time speaking out alongside local and state officials against hate crimes and violence reported here and around the country.

The Anti-Defamation League of New England is hosting the "Massachusetts Speaks Out Against Hate" event, along with more than two dozen other community groups. Speakers include Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, State Treasurer Deb Goldberg and Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim.

According to the ADL, the event's purpose is to "send a message that irrespective of politics or who you supported in the election, this kind of behavior is simply not acceptable and does not represent who we are as a city, state, or country."

Patch has been documenting incidents of hatred and racism in the aftermath of the presidential election here and around the country, including a Trump supporter allegedly attacked outside a Boston bar, distribution of a white supremacist newspaper to a Milford neighborhood and letters with racial slurs left on a Natick resident's steps. The ADL additionally is collecting reports of hate crimes across the country here.
