Mayor Walsh Calls For Trump's Removal From Office

The Boston mayor joined other political leaders in asking the 25th Amendment be invoked after riots at the U.S. Capitol.

BOSTON — Mayor Marty Walsh has joined a growing faction of political leaders supporting the removal of President Trump from power in the wake of a violent insurrection attempt by his followers at the U.S. Capitol.

"I absolutely believe that the president should be removed from office," Walsh said Thursday while giving a coronavirus update for the city.

The mayor agreed with U.S. senators and representatives from Massachusetts who have called for Vice President Mike Pence and Trump's Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment, which would start the process of possibly removing him from the White House.

"His entire presidency has proven him once again to be incapable of the leadership and the responsibilities of the Presidency of the United States of America," Walsh said.

U.S. Sen. Ed Markey and others have started demanding the impeachment of Trump, an action that would keep him from running for office ever again.

Walsh is a longtime friend of President-elect Joe Biden and reportedly on the shortlist of nominees for Labor Secretary in Biden's Cabinet.
