Longtime MBTA Employee Killed In Bus Yard 'Tragedy'

Bernadin Etienne,​ 62, died at the hospital after being struck by a bus early Monday morning.

CHARLESTOWN, MA — A veteran MBTA employee was killed in what officials called "a terrible tragedy" at the transit agency's bus yard.

Bernadin Etienne, 62, died at the hospital after being struck by a bus. MBTA General Manager Steve Poftak said Etienne worked for the MBTA for 18 years.

Poftak said Etienne was struck while reporting to his bus to start his work day.

"Obviously it's a terrible tragedy," Poftak said. "We will conduct a thorough investigation and make sure any safety issues are addressed."
