MBTA To Start Accelerated Construction Of Green Line E Branch

Enhanced Route 39 buses will replace Green Line service for the month of August.

BOSTON, MA — From Monday August 2 through Sunday August 29 this year, MBTA crews will work around the clock to update the Green Line E Branch between South Huntington Avenue and Brigham Circle Station.

The MBTA will provide replacement bus service during the Green Line Transformation (GLT) program’s accelerated 28 days of work scheduled.

Part of the GLT's program, this Green Line E branch work will replace outdated track including ties, ballast, and rail as well as pavement.

Overnight work will start Monday, July 19, 2021, and crews will work through Saturday, July 31, 2021, Mondays through Fridays from 9 PM to 5 AM.

The accelerated service of this project was used in 2020 when the GLT program completed four weeks of full access improvements on the E Branch, primarily from Northeastern University to Brigham Circle.

MBTA officials say they this project may be loud, but they are implementing standard mitigation strategies to minimize noise disruptions to neighbors. Noise levels are monitored, and the MBTA responds to all noise complaints.
