"... a tragic ending to a holiday weekend adventure."

A Northeastern University Business School student died in a boating accident over the Fourth of July weekend, according to a message to students from the dean.

Mohamed Bazzi was canoeing at Fort Pond in Littleton when the accident occurred, according to the school.

According to Littleton Police Chief Matthew King, the 21-year-old went canoeing by himself around 7 p.m. Saturday and never returned. His body was found floating near the shoreline later that night, following a search by police.

In his message to students, Northeastern's School of Business Dean Hugh Courtney wrote:

"Pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a dual concentration in Supply Chain Management and Marketing, Mohamed had a great interest in all of the logistical functions that enable companies to increase efficiency and performance. Mohamed was a strong student and completed a successful co-op at the New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH) where he was a valued part of the Materials Management Team. In part due to his hard work and dedication, Mohamed had secured a second co-op at Deloitte which was to begin this month. "

Services for Bazzi will be held Tuesday in Watertown, Courtney said.
