Sleet, Freezing Rain To Start The Week In MA

The National Weather Service says sleet and/or freezing rain will begin Sunday night and continue Monday in Eastern Massachusetts.

BOSTON — The last two days of 2019 are likely to bring some wet and perhaps icy weather to eastern Massachusetts before giving way to clear skies on New Year's Day.

The National Weather Service said that Sunday will feature increasing cloudiness during the afternoon, followed by rain, freezing rain or sleet beginning about 10 p.m. The mix of rain and sleet will continue Monday, with a high of 37 degrees.

No accumulation is expected, but Patch will report any school closings and delays Sunday night into Monday. Subscribe to your local Patch for free to keep up on the latest.

By Tuesday, the precipitation will change to rain, but Wednesday — New Year's Day — is expected to be clear and sunny, with a high about 41 degrees.

Sunday and Monday weather could be significantly worse, however, in central and western Massachusetts, where snow accumulations up to two inches are predicted and up to half an inch of ice.
