MASSACHUSETTS — Heavy, wet snow led to serious crashes Tuesday morning across Massachusetts, and road conditions are only expected to get worse for the afternoon commute home. In Bourne, police said two teenagers were injured when the pickup truck they were in slid off the road and wrapped around a tree. In Danvers, a school bus with students aboard was involved in a crash around noon, and two ambulances were called to the scene.

There were hours-long delays for flights in and out of Logan Airport.

About a half-foot of snow and counting fell on most of the state as of noon. The latest forecast calls for the snow to intensify across Massachusetts during the afternoon commute — resulting in accumulations of up to 10 inches in some parts — and then possibly change to freezing rain around 7 p.m.

"Pavements wet to snow-covered," MassDOT tweeted. "Minimize travel tonight when possible."

In Wellesley, icy roads caused and SUV to spin out and slam into a guardrail on I-95. And in Worcester, a driver spun out on Interstate 190.

In Swansea, a tractor-trailer rollover brought the morning commute to a standstill for a time, with one lane blocked for about four hours.

"Roads are slick," Massachusetts State Police tweeted. "Please take it slow."

Schools across Massachusetts were closed Tuesday. Nearby in Rhode Island, police said at least seven crashes occurred Tuesday morning.

Snow lovers: Enjoy Tuesday's storm, because there's no snow in sight until Christmas — and the latest forecast shows it could indeed be a white Christmas.
