The parade will take a 3.6-mile route through South Boston.

Boston's St. Patrick's Day Parade, which attracts as many as a million spectators each year, is to kick off at 1 p.m. Sunday. The parade begins outside the Broadway MBTA station and follows a 3 1/2-mile route through the city to the finish on Dorchester Avenue.
This year's parade, expected to last five hours, includes 24 floats and 27 bands, featuring musicians from Ireland, Spain, Germany and other countries. Firefighters from as far away as Ireland and California will take part, as will members of the military, veterans, the New England Revolution and the Connacht rugby team from Ireland.
