WINTHROP, MA — The 28-year-old man who authorities say shot and killed a retired Massachusetts State Trooper and an Air Force veteran before being fatally shot by police was acting by himself and there is no longer a threat, Suffolk County's top prosecutor said.

Nathan Allen was "working alone" when he killed David Green and Ramona Cooper after crashing a stolen box truck Saturday afternoon, District Attorney Rachael Rollins told reporters Monday.

Rollins said Allen had recently written "disturbing" things about white supremacism in his notebook over the last week.

Allen was married, had a doctorate and "likely appeared unassuming," Rollins said over the weekend. His pandemic wedding was featured in a feel-good Boston Globe story last summer.

Winthrop has been reeling since Saturday's events that saw the small oceanside town become home to a shooting spree that grabbed national attention after Rollins said it was being investigated as a potential hate crime.

Police said Allen crashed a stolen box truck into a home and ran away before shooting Cooper and Green. Rollins said Allen, who had a license to carry, passed by several people who were not Black and did not shoot at them.

It is believed Green died trying to stop Allen after he shot Cooper.

The area is home to some Jewish houses of worship, and though Allen had written anti-Semitic things, Rollins said she did not know where Allen was going when he crashed the truck.
