BRAINTREE, MA — Two Braintree pubs may have their alcohol licenses suspended the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day after the town's licensing board determined they were among three restaurants who served liquor to intoxicated customers.

Braintree Brew House, TGI Fridays, and Southside Tavern were all issued one-day liquor license suspensions on Tuesday. But the licensing board decided that Braintree Brew House doesn't need to serve the suspension if they avoid further problems in the next six months and have two of their bartenders undergo additional training. Town Clerk James Casey told the Patriot Ledger the other two restaurants have had several incidents over the last year, while this is Braintree Brew House's first offense.

The liquor license suspensions issued at TGI Fridays on Forbes Road and Southside Tavern on Washington Street are scheduled to be enforced the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day, pending state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission appeal. An attorney representing Southside Tavern told the Patriot Ledger the suspension is excessive because it penalizes the restaurant on one of the busiest nights of the year. Southside Tavern said it will appeal the suspension.

Caroline O’Connell, the attorney representing TGI Fridays, told the board it has already taken corrective steps, including firing a bartender, who the board said served an intoxicated person a drink. The person later fell and hit their head.
