Braintree Vet. Care partnered with a nonprofit helping cats and dogs stranded by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

BRAINTREE, MA — A new animal hospital opened in Braintree Monday.

Braintree Veterinary Care opened at 494 Quincy Ave., offering care for dogs, cats and other companion animals. Services include a full range of wellness, prevention and vaccines, as well as dentistry, microchipping and surgery, including spaying and neutering.

Clinical Director Rebecca Lussier oversees all veterinary care and hospital operations for the hospital. She said she's thrilled to be a part of the Braintree community and care for pets at a facility with state-of-the-art equipment.

According to Paws4Survival founder Nicole DiPaolo, nearly 1 million stray cats and 500,000 stray dogs were roaming the island in the months following the hurricane, which hit Puerto Rico in late 2017.

"Our mission is to provide care and treatment to these neglected animals and then find loving homes for them," DiPaolo said. "We are so grateful to Braintree Vet and Dr. Lussier for their help."
