BEMA Performs a Routine Walkthrough at Braintree High
BEMA Prepared a Walkthrough Should Anything Happen with at Pilgrim
Picture it: A warm Wednesday afternoon and you’re finishing up some errands before picking the kids up from school, listening to your favorite song on the radio, enjoying the precious few “me time” moments you have during the day, when in the middle of the song a breaking news bulletin has come through: a flood has occurred and they are asking citizens of Braintree to evacuate their homes. Would you know how to handle this situation? Luckily, you wouldn’t be alone and there are people who are trained to help!
On Saturday, August 10th, the Braintree Emergency Management Agency teamed up with the Weymouth Emergency Management Agency for a Functional Walkthrough for the Pilgrim Processing Plant at Braintree High. The teams were joined by members of FEMA as a full test run was completed to help ensure the safety of all citizens, including a radiation test area, a reunification area, and more to help keep you and your family safe and together.
While this training is extreme and wouldn’t as directly affect the residents of Braintree as it would the residents of Plymouth, this is only an example of one of many trainings that are an important part of volunteering with BEMA. They help keep the organization prepared and ready for any emergency that may come their way, whether it be a hurricane, flood, power outage, medical outbreaks, or even an active shooter. Just this year, BEMA helped the police department in a search and rescue on July 4th on Sunset Lake.

BEMA will participate in several trainings throughout the year because being prepared is half the battle and BEMA volunteers want to make sure that they are prepared for any and all contingencies. They want to help protect not only their families but yours.
BEMA is an incredible resource for the community and are able to help with a variety of questions, suggestions, and concerns and are always welcoming new participants. Volunteers are an integral part of this organization and new faces are always welcome! For more information, contact Rob Millette at rmillette@braintree.gov.
