Boston Herald Moving To Braintree

The paper is moving from the Seaport District to Grossman Avenue, according to a memo.

BRAINTREE, MA — The Boston Herald is preparing to move to the South Shore, according to a company memo.

The memo from publisher Kevin Corrado to employees indicates that the newspaper is moving into an office building on Grossman Drive. Few other details beyond other businesses in the area and a moving schedule of Nov. 26 to Dec. 16 are listed.

Like most newspapers, the Herald has struggled with declining revenues and online competition. The paper was sold in February to Digital First Media for $12 million in a bankruptcy auction after it was initially believed that GateHouse Media would be the buyer. Following the purchase, about 175 of the 240 people who worked for Herald at the time of the sale were retained by Digital First, which has a reputation for large staff reductions at the newspapers they own. The Boston Business Journal reported earlier this month that nine advertising representatives were recently laid off and will be out of a job Sept. 7.

The move will be the newspaper's second of the decade. They left their South End home of nearly five decades in 2012 for their current home in the Seaport District. Their future home is a short walk from the Braintree MBTA station.
