Braintree Among State's Biggest Recipients Of PPP Loans

Businesses in Braintree got over 900 federal Paycheck Protection Program loans, worth over $164 million.

BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree businesses were among the biggest recipients of federal Paycheck Protection Program loans in Massachusetts, with the town receiving the 6th-most funding, according to new data reported by the Boston Business Journal..

Businesses in Braintree received over 900 loans worth over $164 million. Downtown Boston led the state with $296.5 million in PPP loans. Combined, Boston businesses received over $1 billion in PPP loans.

The Paycheck Protection Program, part of the CARES Act passed in response to the coronavirus pandemic in March, offered forgivable loans for payroll and other expenses. The Boston Business Journal and other companies sued the federal government for data on every single PPP loan.
