Braintree Conducting Study To Fix Traffic Issues
The study involves a survey of every traffic signal in Braintree.

BRAINTREE, MA — In an effort to fix traffic issues in Braintree, Mayor Charles Kokoros announced the town will conduct a town-wide traffic signal inventory to help Braintree make future planning decisions.
The project will be conducted by the Braintree Department of Public Works and the Office of Planning and Community Development. Kokoros said it will be paid for with traffic mitigation funds collected by the Planning Board from past developments. The survey is expected to be conducted in the spring.
A traffic engineering consultant will be retained to perform a detailed review of each municipally owned traffic signal system and to compile and centralize information about the specific equipment and the operational phasing and timing at each location.

"Traffic has been and continues to be a major challenge in our community and this is the first step in addressing our congested intersections," Kokoros said. "I look forward to getting valuable information from this study to make the changes necessary to create better traffic flow."
Kokoros said the data will be useful in identifying immediate actions the town can take to improve traffic flow, such as the repair of vehicle detection and malfunctioning equipment. The inventory will also be used as a platform to make informed decisions about future improvements to the town’s traffic signals and will serve as a guide for reference when considering where best to apply future traffic mitigation efforts.
