Braintree Guarantees 2nd Coronavirus Doses Will Be Done Locally

BRAINTREE, MA — Town officials confirmed that everyone who received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine at a Braintree-run clinic will be able to get their second dose in the same place.

On Monday, Gov. Charlie Baker's order ceasing vaccine deliveries to cities and towns went into effect, a decision that angered Mayor Charles Kokoros. He argued Baker's decision created unnecessary difficulties for the town's most vulnerable residents to get vaccinated.

All vaccines will now be sent to regional facilities and local pharmacies. But Health Director Marybeth McGrath assured the Town Council Tuesday that residents will be taken care of if they already got vaccinated at a town clinic. McGrath said the town is beginning to schedule appointments for people's second vaccine dose.

"We have been guaranteed that we will receive that vaccine," McGrath said

McGrath also told the Town Council Braintree's coronavirus numbers have improved, and the town is in a "good place."

As of Tuesday, the town had 3,911 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic. Braintree saw 85 new cases in the past week.

McGrath said the town also saw two more deaths from COVID-19. As of Tuesday, 134 Braintree residents have died because of the pandemic.
