Braintree Officer Out Of Hospital, Procession Bringing Him Home

BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree police Officer William Cushing Jr. was released from the hospital Friday morning, after being shot last week while responding to a domestic violence call.

Police said Cushing was released from the hospital around 10 a.m. A police procession will bring Cushing back to Braintree. Police said the procession will enter Braintree between 10:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. Cushing will be escorted by his fellow Braintree police officers and police K-9 family.

The procession will come off Route 3 at Exit 40 (the old “17”) at the Union Street Rotary. It will proceed west on Union Street to the lights at Union and Washington. A left turn (south) on Washington Street will take Cushing past the town hall, where he will pass Mayor Charles Kokoros and his staff. The procession will continue through South Braintree Square and turn right at the Washington/Hancock/Pearl Street.

Police encourage the public to standout along this route to show their support for Cushing.

Cushing and Braintree police Officer Matthew Donaghue were both shot and injured while responding to a domestic situation at the Braintree Village apartments. Cushing's police dog Kitt was shot and killed.

Authorities identified the suspect as Andrew Homen, 34, of Brockton. Homen was shot-and-killed after ambushing the officers in the woods, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office.
