Braintree Remains Moderate Coronavirus Risk With 110 New Cases
The town's positive test rate rose to 2.66 percent, still below the state average.
BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree added 110 coronavirus cases over the last two weeks, bringing it to over 1,300 confirmed cases, according to town-by-town data released by the state. But the town remained in the moderate-risk category, averaging 19.8 daily cases per 100,000 residents, with a test rate of 2.66 percent.
That's up from 13.3 average daily cases and a test rate of 2.22 percent last week. There have been 1,335 cases in Braintree since March.
Eight of those new cases came from Braintree Public Schools. Between Nov. 12 and 18, the district saw nine in-person students and three staff members test positive for the coronavirus.

Braintree School Nursing Director Jean Afzali said that so far, school cases have not resulted in any outbreaks. She's also hopeful new rapid testing kits from the state will help the district identify cases quicker and streamline the contract tracing process.

Sixty-two Massachusetts communities were designated high-risk by the state on Thursday, more than doubling the list of red towns. More than three-quarters of the state's cities and towns reported rising positive test rates.
There have been 10,204 confirmed deaths and 192,050 confirmed cases statewide since the pandemic reached the Bay State in March. The statewide positive test rate rose to 3.2 percent, the highest level since early June.
