Braintree Resident Nominated as Unsung Heroine
Patrice Kelly, of Braintree, was honored as a member of the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women's 2017 class of Unsung Heroines.

From State Senator Walter Timilty: Patrice Kelly of Braintree was honored as a member of the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women’s 2017 class of Unsung Heroines. Senator Walter F. Timilty (D-Milton) nominated Kelly for this recognition because of her admirable work on behalf of children and families across Massachusetts facing pediatric cancer diagnoses.
Kelly, along with her family, founded Prayers for Charlotte in honor and memory of her daughter, Charlotte Kelly, who passed away in 2011 at age five from cancer. The foundation, through its efforts including the annual Run for Charlotte, raises funds for neuroblastoma research and for families fighting pediatric cancer. Over the last six years, Prayers for Charlotte has aided more than 100 families facing financial hardships due to medical bills.
“Patrice Kelly truly embodies what it means to be an Unsung Heroine,” said Timilty. “Her tireless work on behalf of children and families across Massachusetts deserves our utmost thanks and praise. It was a great privilege to celebrate this commitment and dedication with Patrice and her family.”

The Unsung Heroines are women who don’t make the news, but make the difference. They are the women who use their time, talent and enthusiasm to enrich the lives of others and make a difference in their neighborhoods, cities and towns. They are mentors, volunteers and innovators who do what needs to be done without expectations of recognition or gratitude. These women are the glue that keeps a community together and every community is better because of their contribution.
The Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women is an independent state agency that was legislatively created in 1998 to advance women of the Commonwealth to full equality in all areas of life and to promote their rights and opportunities.
