Braintree Schools Get $5K Grant For Mental Health Services

The grant pays for training for Braintree school mental health providers on both individual and group therapy.

BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree Public Schools received a $5,000 grant from the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office to support mental health services following the coronavirus pandemic.

Braintree was one of 15 towns in Norfolk County to receive the grant.

"We try to target our community reinvestment dollars where our towns identify the greatest need," District Attorney Michael Morrissey said. "Coming out of the pandemic year, our partners in the schools and town governments have made it very clear that the deepest need is mental health support and services."

Braintree will use the grant money for a two-day training series for school psychologists, adjustment counselors, behavior analysts and other mental health service providers in the school district.

The training will focus on delivering cognitive behavior therapy and dialectic behavior therapy in both individual and group settings. Anxiety, depression, behavior disorders, and substance abuse will all be covered.

"This year our communities are consistently worried about the emotional well-being of students in particular, but the entire population," Morrissey said.
