See a list of Braintree businesses that are open and need your support as the new coronavirus spreads.
BRAINTREE, MA — The Town Council has encouraged people to find ways to support local businesses that have been threatened by the spread of the new coronavirus. Councilor David Ringius said the council has reached out to Braintree restaurants and other businesses and asked for how the community can support them.
"Braintree is a town that thrives on small businesses," Ringius told Patch. "There's a lot of locally owned businesses. They are a part of the fabric of Braintree."
Ringius said small businesses like the Southside Tavern and Glow are consistently stepping up for the community. Many of them support the schools, host events and run charities in town.

Restaurants have had to shift from dine-in establishments to take-out and delivery services. Salons and barber shops have closed shops because they're work requires them to be in direct contact with customers. Many of these employees are commission-based or rely on tips, Ringius said.
Matt Kielty, who owns the Southside tavern, said the community response has been great so. He suggested people keep buying gift cards, scheduling catering for future events and sharing their posts on social media.

Kielty said it's also important that people support the other restaurants in town and is happy to see people sharing social media posts supporting businesses throughout Braintree.
“We have to remind ourselves that we are in the same boat," Kielty said. "We are all in this together."
As for salons, Glow owner Shelly North said her customers have supported her by shopping online for gift cards and beauty products. She also suggested that people book appointments three or more weeks out so her employees have steady work to come back to when she can re-open.
