Excessive Heat Warning Issued; Braintree To Open Cooling Center

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 9 p.m. Wednesday

BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree residents who need a place to beat the heat can head to the Department of Elder Affairs Tuesday and Wednesday.

The building, located at 71 Cleveland Ave., will serve as a cooling center and will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to hit the upper 90s, with the heat index reaching 105.

If you work or spend time outside, the NWS advises you to reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening, take regular rest breaks, wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely, according to the NWS.

Young children and pets should not be left in cars unattended, especially during this stretch of weather where the heat can be deadly.
