Flooding Causes Braintree Roads To Become Impassible, Traps Vehicles

Police say several vehicles became stuck on Granite Street during a flash flood.

BRAINTREE, MA — Flooding and heavy rains struck the area Wednesday and Braintree was not spared.

As the Braintree Police Department pointed out, unless you had a boat, some roads were nearly impossible to navigate.

During Wednesday's storm, officers were forced to close sections of Granite Street at about 4 p.m. Police said multiple vehicles were stuck on the road due to severe flooding, with detours placed across the street, the South Shore Plaza, and near Interstate 93.

"While blocking the road with cruisers and directing motorists to 'bang a uey,' we had numerous motorists ask 'if they could go that way' or blatantly just fly right past us. Mind you, the rain was coming down as big as grapes," Braintree police wrote on Facebook.

A photo posted by the police department showed the impact of 2-3 inches of rain. Video posted on Twitter showed how intense the storm was.

In nearby Weymouth, a resident told WFXT said the storm sounded like a bomb went off.
