Man Attacks MBTA Police Officer At Braintree Station: Transit PD

A Boston man was arrested in Braintree after police said he punched an officer in the face and yelled racial slurs at an MBTA employee.

BRAINTREE, MA — A Boston man was arrested Friday after Transit Police said he assaulted an MBTA police officer at the Braintree station.

Around 11:45 p.m., police said they received a call that a man, later identified as Joseph Edge, 48, refused to get off the train. The officer was met by an MBTA employee who told police he tried telling Edge to exit the train, but in return, Edge called him a racial slur several times, police said.

The officer got on the train and approached Edge, but police said he repeated the racial epithet uttered additional slurs at the officer. Police said the officer continued trying to get Edge off the train, but then Edge punched the officer in the face and grabbed his testicles.

The officer overcame Edge's assault and with the assistance of responding officers, placed him under arrest, police said.

Edge was taken to Transit Police Headquarters for booking, but before Edge was taken away, he screamed more racial epithets at the MBTA employee, police said.
