Man Attacks Taxi Driver At Braintree MBTA Station: Transit Police

Police said Zaccaria Adan, 28, of East Boston, also tried to steal the driver's cab.

BRAINTREE, MA — An East Boston man was arrested Monday after Transit Police said he attacked a taxi driver and attempted to steal his car at the Braintree MBTA station.

Zaccaria Adan, 28, was charged with unarmed robbery, assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and carjacking.

Police said the assault happened around 12:50 a.m. Officers responded to the call and found the victim, a 57-year-old taxi driver. The driver told police he was waiting to pick up a passenger at the station, when Adan walked over.

Adan asked for a ride, but the driver told him he was already awaiting a passenger. Police said Adan got angry, punched the taxi's window and yelled obscenities at the driver.

The driver got out of the taxi, then Adan punched him in the face repeatedly until the victim fell to the ground, police. Adan began kicking the driver in the head, then got in the taxi and unsuccessfully tried to drive away, according to police. Police said Adan stole the victim's phone and money from the taxi before running away.

Police later arrested Adan after the victim and another witness identified him. He was arraigned Tuesday in Quincy District Court.
