Midnight Showings For 'Avengers: End Game' Approved In Braintree

BRAINTREE, MA — The AMC theater usually has to close before 1:30 a.m. on most nights, but because of a certain superhero movie's large following, the town's licensing board has made an exception. The the theater was approved seven midnight showings for Marvel's "Avengers: Endgame, allowing AMC to stay open until 3:30 a.m. those nights.

"This is typical, we've done this on many occasions over the years for films with large followings," Town Clerk James Casey said.

The first midnight showings were approved for April 25, as well the following three nights. There will also be midnight showings May 3-5.

For safety reasons, any showings on Friday or Saturday are required to have at least two police officers, one at the movie theater and another by the parking lot for traffic safety. With "Avengers," Braintree is requiring an additional two officers for Friday and Saturday night showings.

There's also some restrictions on costumes, which Casey said are common for movies like such as this and "Star Wars." Movie-goers cannot where masks or anything covering their faces. Weapon props such as swords or blasters are also prohibited. Casey said the ruels are jsut safety protocol, but these nights have always just been about fun.

"In the years we've done this, we've never had any problems," Casey said. "The movie-goers just get involved in this type of movie with themes and gear."
