Movie With Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell To Be Shot In Braintree

BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree will get a little taste of a Hollywood production this summer.

Apple TV+ will film "Spirited," a musical remake of the Charles Dickens classic "A Christmas Carol," in town. The movie stars Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer, the Patriot Ledger reported. Mayor Charles Kokoros told the Ledger film crews will shoot at the Nordstrom wing of the South Shore Plaza in early July. Set designers will deck the mall in Christmas decorations.

Boston Casting, a local agency, is running casting for the production. The agency said its looking for people between ages 20 and 60 "who are comfortable moving, shaking and shimmying" as extras in the film. Filming is expected to run from July 6 through Oct. 18, the casting notice read.

This won't be the first time a Hollywood production comes to Braintree. Filmmakers shot parts of the 2008 comedy "Paul Blart: Mall Cop," where Kevin James plays a goofy mall cop attempting to fight crime.
