Obituary: Maximilian "Max" J. Bodner, 84, of Braintree

Maximilian “Max” J. Bodner, 84 years of age, of Braintree passed away at the South Shore Hospital on Sunday, April 26th 2015.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Jean (Anderson) Bodner, his daughter Meredith Golden of Braintree, his son Christian N. Bodner and daughter-in-law Kristen J. Bodner and grandchildren, Jack Golden of Braintree, and Lindsey, Nicholas, and Courtney Bodner of Hingham. He leaves his brother Helmut Raps of Kaiserslautern, Germany. He was the brother-in-law to Doris and Al Ouellet of Hingham.

Max was born in Bayreuth, Germany in 1931 and moved to France in 1948. Thereafter he moved to be with his sponsors at Toronto, CA. In 1956 he moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL and moved to Massachusetts in 1961 to be married. He became a U.S. Citizen in 1961 and in that year began working for Valle’s Steakhouse in Kittery, ME. He opened the Valle Steakhouse in Braintree in 1964 and became manager for 20 years. He loved the restaurant business and Valle’s was a huge success during his term as manager. He belonged to the Boylston-Schul-Verein, a German organization in Walpole. Max was also a member of the Weymouth Lodge of Elks.
Visiting hours will be at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree on Friday, May 1 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Burial will be private at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Lodge of Elks in memory of Max Bodner, 2750 N. Lakeview Avenue, Chicago, IL 60614-2256, or to the Perkins School for the Blind, 175 N. Beacon Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
