Plea For Crime-Free Heat Wave Works: Zero Arrests In Braintree

Braintree police thanked the public for binge-watching "Stranger Things" and practicing karate instead of committing crimes.

BRAINTREE, MA — The weekend heat wave saw the heat index reach 112 degrees, which Braintree police said not only made the weather as "hot as soccer balls" but was also much too hot for people to commit crimes. The Braintree department, along with several others in Massachusetts, asked the public not to commit any crimes during the dangerous heat. In Braintree at least, the public complied: Not a single arrest was made over the weekend.

On Friday night, Braintree police took to Facebook, asking the public to hold off from committing any crimes until Monday. They asked would-be lawbreakers to instead binge the new season of "Stranger Things" or take part in other harmless activities.

"It is straight up hot as soccer balls out there," Braintree police said. "Conducting criminal activity in this extreme heat is next level henchmen status and also very dangerous. Stay home, blast the AC, binge Stranger Things season 3, play with the Face App, practice karate in your basement."

Braintree police said the post was viewed almost 12 million times by Facebook users and thanked the public for sharing the post and ultimately deciding it was too hot to go out and commit crimes.

"A sincere thank you to all those this weekend who decided it was too hot for crime, stayed home, caught up on Stranger Things, and perfected karate moves in their basement," Braintree police said. "You made for a very slow weekend for us aka: The PoPo, Donut Patrol, The Fuzz, Five-Oh."
