Quarter Of Braintree Residents Got At Least 1 Vaccine Dose

The state's plan to prioritize the most vulnerable residents is showing in Braintree, where seniors have received the most vaccinations.

BRAINTREE, MA — About 25 percent of the town's nearly 39,700 residents have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to new state data released Thursday.

The state's vaccine rollout prioritizing the most vulnerable residents is bearing fruit in Braintree, where those 75 or older have received the most vaccinations despite making up just 8 percent of the town's population. Seventy-three percent of those 75+ have received at least one dose, while 32 percent of them are fully vaccinated.

Fifty-nine percent of those 65-74 have received at least one dose while 12 percent are fully vaccinated. That group only makes up 10 percent of all the fully vaccinated people in Braintree, a number far outpaced by the 30-49 and 50-64 age groups.

The Department of Public Health also released town-by-town coronavirus metrics, which showed continued improvement in Braintree.

The positive test rate fell from 3.39 percent to 3.27 percent, while the average daily incidence rate per 100,000 was 24.9.

There were 138 confirmed cases in the past two weeks, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 3,531.
