Regular Lane Closures On Rt. 3 Planned For The Spring

The closures are part of the Route 3 Bridge Replacement Project.

From MassDOT:

BRAINTREE, MA — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has announced that beginning in the evening of Sunday, April 8, and continuing throughout spring 2018, there will be temporary, off-peak lane closures and occasional ramp closures on Route 3 north and southbound in Braintree just south of the Braintree split.

These traffic impacts represent one of the last phases of the Route 3 Bridge Replacement Project and will allow crews and contractors to safely and effectively remove median “crossover” traffic logistics and conduct site restoration work. As part of this $6.3 million project, crews utilized accelerated construction methods on two weekends in fall 2017 to replace two structurally deficient bridges that carry vehicles on Route 3 north and southbound over an I-93 ramp.

The full list of upcoming traffic impacts is as follows:

  • Overnight lane closures on Route 3 north and southbound occurring each night between 8 p.m., and 5 a.m.
  • Intermittent overnight detours of traffic using the ramps between Route 3 north and southbound and the Burgin Parkway between 8 p.m., and 5 a.m.
  • Off-peak, daytime lane closures between the hours of 10 a.m., and 3 p.m., on the ramp that carries traffic from Route 3 southbound to the Burgin Parkway.

In order to accommodate construction operations in fall 2017, crews implemented median crossovers so that all traffic was diverted away from construction activities and shifted onto the adjacent side of the roadway and a nearby ramp. This spring, crews will be removing these median crossover logistics and conducting other related activities. All work associated with the project is expected to be completed by fall 2018 and activities to be completed include utility operations, drainage work, landscaping, and minor finishing work.
