School Field Trips Returning To Braintree Schools

Field trips including the broadcast journalism club's trip to Long Beach, California, got the green light to start planning.

BRAINTREE, MA — The Braintree School Committee last week unanimously approved allowing school field trips to return after more than a year of their absence amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The field trips are still limited to domestic travel, but after the vote on June 28, several trips around the United States can now be planned for Braintree students. School Committee Chair Tom Devin said the approval was preliminary. Groups running field trips still will have to go through logistics to get going.

A few trips being planned for Braintree students include the following:

  • The broadcast journalism club going to Long Beach, California for an annual national conference
  • The art department sponsoring a trip to national parks in the Western United States, including the Grand Canyon and Zion National Park
  • The music group going to New York City in March 2022

"I think this is a good thing," said School Committee member Karla Psaros. "These kids need normalcy. This will get them back. We need to move forward."
