ICYMI: Teamsters Local 25 donates $10,000 to Scholarship Fund

Teamsters Local 25 Autism Fund donates to Jake Parker Scholarship Fund, Donation honors Braintree American Challenger League

Teamsters Local 25 has donated $10,000 to the Jake Parker Scholarship Fund, named after 14-year-old Jake Parker, a Braintree resident, who passed away unexpectedly on April 17, 2019.

The donation is made in honor of the Braintree American Challenger League, of which Parker
was a longtime member. The Teamsters Local 25 Autism Fund has donated more than $175,000
to the league over the years.

“We first learned about the challenger little leagues through the work of longtime volunteer
and 30-year Teamsters Local 25 member, Joe O’Connor,” said Local 25 President Sean M.
O’Brien. “Since then we have witnessed the sheer joy that the players – and parents – get
from playing in the league and have been able to support other challenger leagues in Boston,
Malden, Medford and Northborough.”

“When Joe told us about Jake, his love of sports and the Jake Parker Scholarship Fund, we
were happy to support. This scholarship will help ensure Jake’s legacy lives on for years to
come and be a lasting tribute to a young man who loved sports,” said O’Brien.

O’Connor presented the donation to the Parker family, on behalf of the Teamsters Local 25
Autism Fund. “Teamsters Local 25 – and President Sean O’Brien – has been our champion the
past several years,” said O’Connor, who founded the Braintree league 15 years ago. “They’ve
been an integral part of our team and are always willing to help.”
