Teen Killed In Braintree Crash Aspired For Ivy League

Friends and family of Amanda Nguyen​ are now mourning the death of the young 16-year-old teen from Dorchester.

BRAINTREE, MA — Friends and family of Amanda Nguyen are now mourning the death of the young 16-year-old teen from Dorchester.

At about 4 a.m. Sunday, Braintree fire responded to a report of a vehicle that struck a utility pole near the Braintree Electric Light Department's Plain Street property. Upon arrival, police located one vehicle with substantial damage and three individuals trapped inside the car, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney's office.

The driver and back seat passenger, both men, suffered serious injuries. Nguyen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her brother told WFXT that Nguyen had Ivy League aspirations and was a very bright kid.

In a statement, the Boston Public Schools said, "Everyone in the Boston Public Schools is saddened by the tragic loss of this promising student. Our deepest condolences are with Amanda's family and friends during this extremely difficult time. Counselors have been made available to anyone seeking support as they grieve this tremendous loss."

No criminal charges have been filed. The crash remains under investigation, but police say speed may have been a factor.
