Thayer Rezoning Remains Pending In Front Of Town Council
The proposal would change the zoning of the Thayer Academy South Athletic Campus to allow an indoor athletic facility.

BRAINTREE, MA — The proposed athletic facility at the Thayer AcademySouth Athletic Campus will remain pending in front of the town council’s rules and ordinance committee until at least early June.
The town council voted Tuesday night to table a public hearing on zoning changes related to the project to June 5. The vote came at the recommendation of the rules and ordinance committee, which met earlier in the evening.
The plan calls for an 86,000-square-foot indoor athletic complex which includes one-and-a-half hockey rinks and an indoor field turf. Carl Johnson, an attorney on the project, said the facility would be a taxable property and compared the building to Petersen Pool at Braintree High School. The complex is already home to soccer and athletic fields.

As part of the project, Thayer officials are calling for the property’s zoning to be changed from its current split of Highway business and Resident B to Commercial Recreation.
Councilor Stephen O’Brien said he had some comments but he would reserve them for the June meeting.
