Thayer Sports Center Opens In Braintree

Thayer Academy said the new 90,000 square-foot athletic complex will be available for youth sports leagues throughout the South Shore.

BRAINTREE, MA — Thayer Academy and the Braintree community have a new place for youth to enjoy sports. The high school announced Friday that the new sports center has opened.

The new building features a 90,000 square-foot complex that houses two ice rinks, a removable turf field and basketball, pickleball, volleyball and tennis courts. The Thayer Sports Center will be the home of the Thayer Tigers and the East Coast Militia hockey team but will also be available for local youth sports organizations.

School officials said they are particularly excited for the sports center's Arthur T. Valicenti Rink, which is the first on-campus rink in the school's history. It was named Valicenti, the found of the school's hockey program and longtime boys varsity coach.
