Water Flushing Begins In Braintree This Week
Town officials said the flushing should have a minimal effect on the water distribution system, but temporary dirty water is possible.
BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree's annual water flushing program starts this week, Water and Sewer Department officials said.
Flushing begins Sunday and will continue from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., every day until Thursday. Louis Dutton, the town's water and sewer superintendent, said the flushing should have a minimal effect on the water distribution system, but dirty water is possible.
Dutton also advised against running the washing machine during the flushing.

"Please refrain from doing laundry during these hours, and always check to ensure that your water is running clear before resuming laundry activities," Dutton said in a statement. "If it is not clear then run your water until it is and then run your washing machine without a load in it to prevent the possibility of iron stains. The Town of Braintree will not be responsible for damages to laundry due to maintenance work on the water distribution system."
Dutton said signs will be posted on main roads in the areas where flushing is occurring. The program is expected to be completed by the end of August.
