Brockton Fair Canceled For Second Year Due To Coronavirus

This year would have marked the event's 146th season.

BROCKTON, MA — The Brockton Fair, one of America's oldest fairs, has announced that it has cancelled its 2021 event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This will be the second consecutive year without the Brockton fair, which has been an annual summer tradition in the city since it was founded as an agricultural fair in 1874.

"It is with great sadness, we announce the cancellation of the 2021 Brockton Fair," says the event's website.

Although Massachusetts is in step one of its final reopening phase, larger public events such as fairs are not allowed until step two, the date of which has not yet been announced.

Historical records show that, up until 2020, the fair has only been cancelled twice before, once in 1918 due to the flu epidemic and in 1952 due to a polio outbreak.
